"We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child," said Michelle Duggar, in a recorded phone message to citizens of Fayateville, Arkansas.
Just weeks ago, the town proposed an ordinance that would allow transgendered people to use the public facilities of their choice. It is an effort to minimize bullying and discrimination for transgenders. The problem is, however, allowing transgenders to have open use of facilities also opens the door for convicted pedophiles to have the same access.
As Michelle Duggar warned, the ordinance "would allow men – yes I said men – to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only." She continued by explaining, “I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls."
Proponents of the ordinance dismissed these concerns, but according to a recently published LifeSite News article, evidence has proved otherwise.
In light of the fact that serious breeches of women and children's security have already occurred due to such ordinances in other states, it is grievous that Arkansas passed the ordinance with a 6-2 vote. This ordinance also has serious ramifications for religious liberties, binding business owners from exercising their convictions in the workplace. However, those who oppose the measure are still willing to fight to overturn it, saying, "This fight is far from over."
How do you feel about this ordinance? Would you want it passed in your own town, or has it already? Michelle Duggar closed her message asking, "Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool’s private changing area?"
